Rodri Confident of Quick Recovery After Injury Scare in Club World Cup Final
Manchester City midfielder Rodri has assured fans that he will be fit for the team’s next game, despite limping off the pitch during the Club World Cup final on Friday.
City’s Dominant Victory
Manchester City secured their fifth trophy of 2023 with a resounding 4-0 victory over Brazilian side Fluminense in the Club World Cup final held in Saudi Arabia. The win adds to City’s historic year, which saw them clinch the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, and UEFA Super Cup titles.
Injury Scare for Rodri
However, the celebrations were momentarily dampened when Rodri suffered a painful ankle injury in the 74th minute of the final. The midfielder was on the receiving end of a bad foul from Alexsander, causing him to clutch his knee in agony. Despite initially continuing to play, Rodri eventually had to be substituted for Manuel Akanji.
Post-match, Rodri was named Player of the Tournament and appeared to be walking without any major issues as he collected the Gold Ball. He reassured fans that he will be ready to play in City’s upcoming Premier League match against Everton on December 27th.
Concerns for City’s Rivals
An injury to Rodri would be good news for City’s Premier League title rivals, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Tottenham. Rodri is considered one of City’s key players and is widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
Despite leaving the stadium with strapping around his right knee, Rodri confirmed to Sky Sports that he is fine and will be ready for the next game. He also described the foul as one of the worst he has experienced in his career.
City will be hoping for a quick recovery for Rodri, as they already have a short injury list that includes Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, and Jeremy Doku.
