Liverpool’s Injury Woes Continue as Kostas Tsimikas Joins Lengthy List
With Kostas Tsimikas facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a broken collarbone, Liverpool is eagerly awaiting the return of Andy Robertson. However, the Scottish left-back still has a long wait ahead.
Injury Crisis at Liverpool
Following their recent 1-1 draw with Arsenal, Liverpool’s injury list now includes eight senior players, with Luis Diaz also a doubt for upcoming matches.
Joining Tsimikas on the sidelines are Robertson (shoulder), Diogo Jota (hamstring), Alexis Mac Allister (knee), Joel Matip (ACL), Thiago (hip), Stefan Bajcetic (calf), and Ben Doak (MCL).
Manager Jurgen Klopp has already outlined his plan for Joe Gomez to fill in at left-back during the absence of both senior options. Luke Chambers is also available as a backup.
Hopes for Robertson’s Return
The main focus for Liverpool is the return of Andy Robertson, who Klopp hopes will be back in action next month. However, according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, Robertson is unlikely to be available for selection until “late January.”
This means that Robertson will miss at least four more games, including Premier League clashes against Burnley and Newcastle, as well as the FA Cup third-round tie against Arsenal and the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals against Fulham.
A potential return date for Robertson could be the trip to Bournemouth on January 21, although an exact date is purely speculative at this point.
Liverpool has a busy schedule in January, with six games lined up, including the second leg against Fulham and a league match against Chelsea. If Liverpool progresses in the FA Cup, they could also have a fourth-round tie at the end of January.
Expediting Robertson’s Return
The club is exploring all options to expedite Robertson’s return to the team. However, it remains to be seen if he will be back in action by late January.
In addition to Robertson’s absence, Liverpool could also be without Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo for the majority of January and into February, as they will be representing their national teams in the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup, respectively.
With a growing injury list and key players set to be away on international duty, Liverpool faces a challenging period ahead. The team will need to rely on their depth and find ways to cope with the absence of key players.
