Albert Sambi Lokonga Set for Two Months Out with Hamstring Injury

Albert Sambi Lokonga is set for two months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, which Luton boss Rob Edwards described as a ‘real shame’ after a positive start to his loan spell with the club. The 23-year-old is on loan from Arsenal and has already made two starts for the Hatters as they battle to stay in the Premier League.

The Belgium international was in the starting line-up as Luton picked up their Premier League point at the weekend in a 1-1 draw with Wolves at Kenilworth Road. However, he is now set for two months out due to a hamstring problem, which he sounded extremely disappointed about in an Instagram post.

‘I thought it was my time to enjoy playing this beautiful game called football and work hard helping my teammates to reach our goal as a team,’ wrote Lokonga. ‘Unfortunately, an injury came to delay everything. I’ll be focused on my recovery and support the team during that time. See you in a couples of month. God is good all the time.’

Edwards said after Luton’s League Cup defeat to Exeter on Tuesday: ‘Sambi made a real positive start to his life at Luton Town, two real good performances so it’s a real shame for him first and foremost as he wanted to come and perform, play games.

‘He was going to have the opportunity to do that with us and it’s a real shame to be missing him now for a period of time. It could be a while, we’ll have to see. We’re disappointed for him as he made a great start and he’s a really good player.

‘It’s a tough one but it happens, it’s part of life, part of football. It gives someone else an opportunity and they’re going to have to step in so that’s what will happen.’

Lokonga’s injury is a major blow for Luton Town as they look to stay in the Premier League this season. With Lokonga out of action for two months, the Hatters will need to find another player to fill his role and ensure they can remain competitive in the top flight.
