Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign a new striker this summer, with former player Rio Ferdinand suggesting that Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen are two ideal targets. The club has already signed Wout Weghorst in January, but he is seen as a short-term solution rather than a long-term one. Ferdinand believes that United are planning to spend big on a star striker who can score 20-25 goals a season. Kane has scored 22 goals in all competitions for Tottenham this season, while Osimhen has netted 19 goals in Serie A alone for Napoli.
Ferdinand praised the job done by United manager Erik ten Hag, who has led the team to emerge as unlikely Premier League title contenders this season. The Red Devils recently beat Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final and will face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Sunday. Ferdinand said that Ten Hag has dealt with every obstacle placed in front of him perfectly, including the incident with Cristiano Ronaldo, the captaincy situation with Harry Maguire, and Marcus Rashford being late.
Ferdinand added that United fans were feeling pessimistic at the start of the campaign, but the feeling surrounding the camp and within the fanbase is now very much on a different level. He said that if United finish in the Champions League places, which is looking increasingly likely, then it will definitely be a successful season.
