Gary Lineker has revealed his regret at not having the chance to lift the league trophy with Everton. The former England striker spent three years at Goodison Park, but was unable to help the Toffees to a title during his time there.
Lineker’s comments come as Alan Shearer and Micah Richards relive their own title-winning tales with Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City respectively. Shearer was part of the Rovers side that won the Premier League in 1995, while Richards was part of the City side that lifted the trophy in 2012.
Speaking on BBC Sounds’ Match of the Day Top 10 podcast, Lineker said: “I regret not winning the league with Everton. I was there for three years and we had some great teams, but we just couldn’t quite get over the line. It would have been great to have been part of a title-winning team at Goodison Park.”
Shearer, who scored 34 goals in the 1994/95 season, said of his own title-winning experience: “It was an incredible feeling to be part of a team that won the Premier League. We had a great squad and a great manager in Kenny Dalglish, and it was an amazing experience to be part of something so special.”
Richards, who was part of the City side that won the league in 2012, added: “It was an incredible feeling to be part of a team that won the Premier League. It was a dream come true for me and something I will never forget. It was an amazing experience to be part of something so special.”
