Bruno Fernandes Receives Apology from Richard Keys for Yellow Card Accusation
Richard Keys has issued an apology to Bruno Fernandes following his suggestion that the Manchester United captain intentionally received a yellow card to miss the upcoming match against Liverpool.
During United’s 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth, Fernandes received a late yellow card for dissent, resulting in his suspension for the Liverpool game. Keys claimed that Fernandes deliberately got himself booked to avoid playing in a fixture that United lost 7-0 last season.
Backtracking on the Accusation
Keys has since retracted his accusation but still criticized Fernandes for his actions, calling them “irresponsible.” Former United player Phil Neville condemned Keys’ statement as a “disgrace.”
In a column on his website, Keys stated, “I’m happy to withdraw the allegation and apologize to Fernandes. Let’s leave it at him being downright irresponsible.” He further criticized Fernandes for focusing on falling over and arguing with referees instead of utilizing his talent to make a greater impact on games.
United’s Upcoming Matches
Before facing Liverpool, Manchester United will play a crucial Champions League match against Bayern Munich. Currently sitting at the bottom of Group A, United must secure a victory and rely on other results to advance to the knockout stages.
