Manchester United Confirms Sergio Reguilon’s Return to Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester United has officially announced that Sergio Reguilon has returned to Tottenham Hotspur after his loan spell was cut short. The decision to bring Reguilon back to his parent club was made due to fewer games in the second half of the season and the return of injured players.
Reguilon, a 27-year-old Spaniard, joined Manchester United in September as a result of injuries to primary left-back Luke Shaw and regular back-up Tyrell Malacia. He made 12 appearances across all competitions during his time with the club. However, with Shaw’s return to fitness and Malacia nearing recovery, there was less opportunity for Reguilon to play.
Initially, Manchester United had targeted Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella as a replacement for the left-back position. However, complications arose when Cucurella played in the Carabao Cup match against AFC Wimbledon before the summer window closure. As a result, United shifted their focus to Reguilon and secured a deal for him.
In addition to Reguilon’s departure, Manchester United has been busy working on contract extensions for some of their current players. They recently activated the option to extend Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s contract until 2025. The right-back’s contract was set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, but United exercised their option for an additional 12 months.
Furthermore, United extended Victor Lindelof’s deal until 2025 in December. They had already taken care of contract situations for Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford towards the end of the previous season and over the summer.
Manchester United’s next match is an FA Cup third-round tie against Wigan Athletic on January 8. The team continues to make moves in the transfer window, with Choupo-Moting, Muller, and Guirassy on their radar, although financial constraints may limit their spending.
