Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that the club almost signed Eden Hazard in 2012. The Belgian midfielder joined Chelsea from Lille that year, but Redknapp claims that Spurs were close to securing his signature before their London rivals swooped in. Redknapp explained that Chelsea’s Champions League triumph that season meant that Spurs missed out on the now Real Madrid player. He had hoped to team Hazard with Gareth Bale, who was starring for Spurs at the time, in a bid to end the club’s long wait for a league title. Bale eventually returned to Tottenham for a second stint in the 2020-21 season, before leaving Real Madrid for LAFC earlier this year.
