EA Sports has launched its branding for EA SPORTS FC, the first edition of the video game franchise following its split from FIFA. Over 100 matches across the world this weekend will showcase the new triangular logo, with Europe’s top five leagues, the WSL and CONMEBOL all signed up as partners. The support of some of the world’s biggest teams, including Real Madrid and Juventus, will come in handy following EA’s split from world football governing body FIFA after three decades of creating the world’s most popular sports video game. FIFA will look for a new partner to launch a rival football game, with the split from their incredibly successful partnership with EA announced in May last year.
Speaking ahead of the 2022 World Cup, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “I can assure you that the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans. The FIFA name is the only global, original title.” However, EA has showcased its retained league, player and stadium naming rights from across the world’s biggest teams. They’ve also teased a July preview for their first edition, with general manager Nick Wlodyka saying: “This is where the story of EA SPORTS FC begins. We’re building on 30 years of leadership and history creating experiences that bring the global football community together, and continuing to take it into a fan-first future. EA SPORTS FC will be a symbol for the sport, a symbol of innovation and change, and we’re energised to show our fans more about the future in July.”
EA SPORTS FC is the next chapter in The World’s Game. The Premier League said: “We can’t wait to show you the future of football.” EA has also retained Liverpool as a partner. The 2023/24 season will see EA released without FIFA’s branding.
