Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho has faced criticism from RB Leipzig’s sporting director for not wanting to “face the competition.” Carvalho recently had a disappointing loan spell in Germany, starting only three games and playing just 360 minutes across 15 appearances. Despite his lack of success at Leipzig, Carvalho has now been sent out on loan to Hull City.
Carvalho made his first start for Hull City in their match against Norwich on Friday night. The 21-year-old will be hoping to help the Tigers secure promotion to the Premier League, a feat he achieved with Fulham in the past. Liverpool invested £7.7 million in Carvalho in 2022 after his impressive performances in the Championship.
RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Rouven Schroder, shed light on why Carvalho struggled at the club, suggesting that while he has good attributes, he didn’t do enough to fight for a place in the team. Schroder stated that Carvalho didn’t want to face the competition and didn’t show enough determination to earn his spot.
Prior to the Norwich clash, Hull City was seventh in the Championship, just one point off the play-off places. Carvalho will be aiming to replicate his success with Fulham and help Hull City secure promotion. Meanwhile, Liverpool is currently on their winter break and will return to action on January 21st against Bournemouth.
