Rasmus Hojlund backs Marcus Rashford despite recent struggles
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been struggling for form this season, scoring just once in 10 appearances so far. Despite this, summer signing Rasmus Hojlund has backed the England international, saying he is enjoying playing alongside the ‘world class’ forward.
Rashford was dragged off after an hour against Brentford at the weekend with the Red Devils 1-0 down and they went on to win the game 2-1 with two Scott McTominay goals in stoppage time.
Hojlund: ‘I really like playing with him’
Despite his clear lack of form, Hojlund says he is already loving playing alongside Rashford, someone he has looked up to for years.
‘I really like playing with him. He is a world class soccer player. I enjoy playing with a player like him,’ Hojlund told Danish publication Tipsbladet of Rashford.
‘He’s a player I’ve looked up to, even though he’s only a few years older than me. He has done well since he came in as a 19-year-old and scored against Midtjylland. I think he has been a great player ever since, and it is of course great that we are team-mates today.’
Ten Hag: ‘He’ll be on fire’
Erik ten Hag has backed Rashford to rediscover the fine form he showed last season, when he scored 30 goals in all competitions, despite looking a shadow of that player over the last couple of months.
‘Strikers when they don’t score, they need a moment and it will come,’ said the Dutchman last week. ‘He’s so experienced and when he’s doing the right things and the team is, the momentum will come and he’ll be on fire.
‘We have seen in the last weeks, he’s getting into good positions, now he’s a little bit struggling but this will pass because everyone knows his qualities. Everyone at Manchester United backs him, the whole team is supportive of him and believes in him.’
Conclusion
Marcus Rashford may have been struggling for form this season, but it seems his Manchester United teammates are still firmly behind him. Rasmus Hojlund has spoken of his admiration for the England international and Erik ten Hag is confident that Rashford will soon be back to his best.
