Raphael Varane insists ‘everything is possible’ for Manchester United this season, with the club still fighting on four fronts.

United moved to within a point of rivals Manchester City with a morale-boosting 2-1 win against Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday.

With City going out of the Carabao Cup earlier in the week, United are the only side still in four competitions this season.

United’s main goal this season is to qualify for the Champions League but they travel to leaders Arsenal on Sunday after taking on Crystal Palace on Wednesday and two wins could put them in the title race.

Erik ten Hag has been quick to play down any talk of a title challenge but Varane insists they can do it.

    ‘Everything is possible,’ said Varane.

‘We’ll just take it game by game. It’s a long way to go and it’s very difficult. The intensity of every game is incredible, the physical effort. It’s like the same intensity of a big Champions League game, every game.

‘The rhythm is very high. The players are very well prepared, physically. We know how difficult it is. But we’re solid, we’re strong. We just need to use the quality players with the ball.’

United showed resilience to come from behind against City and Varane says Bruno Fernandes’ equaliser was the key to the comeback.

‘After the first goal, we didn’t let our heads drop, even though we conceded a goal at home,’ said Varane.

‘But we also knew that we had the energy of the fans. We continued to follow our plan. Then we scored and that changed the whole game.’
