Calvin Ramsay, Liverpool defender, has resumed light training three months after undergoing knee surgery which ruled him out for the remainder of the season. The 19-year-old had a difficult debut campaign, with a back issue discovered in pre-season delaying his senior debut and then a serious knee injury in February. Jurgen Klopp explained that the surgery was necessary to build the boy up physically and have a new start when they go again. Ramsay is on course to return in time for pre-season and has been seen running around the pitches at the AXA Training Centre on Thursday. He is unlikely to be involved in full-contact training in the coming weeks, with Liverpool being cautious over his recovery.
Ramsay has only made two appearances for the first team, but showed glimpses of his quality down the right flank. He also demonstrated an eye for goal with three strikes in six appearances for Liverpool under-21s, including a goal against League One side Accrington Stanley in the Papa John’s Trophy and one in his final outing at any level against Hertha Berlin in February. Klopp expressed his belief that Ramsay is a great talent and that they are doing the right things to ensure his career can progress.
