The FIFA World Cup is the biggest international football tournament in the world. Every four years, the best players from around the globe come together to compete for the title of world champions. As one of Europe’s top teams, Liverpool’s players often compete for their nations at international football too. With so many internationals playing for Liverpool, we wanted to test your knowledge of their World Cup experiences.

Answers

1. Steven Gerrard was the first Liverpool player to appear in a World Cup match. He made his debut for England in the 2006 tournament in Germany.

2. Steven Gerrard was also the first Liverpool player to score a goal in a World Cup match. He scored a penalty against Trinidad and Tobago in 2006.

3. Jamie Carragher was the first Liverpool player to be named in a World Cup squad. He was included in England’s squad for the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea.

4. Steven Gerrard was the first Liverpool player to win a World Cup. He won the tournament with England in 1966.

5. Jamie Carragher was the first Liverpool player to be sent off in a World Cup match. He was sent off for a professional foul against Portugal in 2006.
