Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico is in a “serious” condition and is currently in intensive care after a horse riding accident. The 29-year-old was riding in the El Rocio region of Huelva in Spain when he was involved in a collision with a runaway horse and fell, according to local media reports. He was then flown by helicopter to a hospital in Seville. Rico had returned to his native Spain after the PSG squad were given time off following their record 11th league title win, which was secured with a 1-1 draw against Strasbourg on Saturday. A PSG spokesperson confirmed on Sunday that Rico is in a serious condition.
The former Seville keeper joined the French champions in 2020 and spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Premier League side Fulham. Since moving from Sevilla in September 2019, he has made 29 appearances for PSG. His former club tweeted their support, saying: “Lots of strength and a speedy recovery.”
