Hugo Ekitike, the 20-year-old French striker who has been linked with a host of top European clubs, including Newcastle United, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, is reportedly set to be offloaded by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after just one season. Ekitike was signed on loan from Reims by PSG last summer, with the deal requiring the Ligue 1 leaders to buy him at the end of the season. However, according to Le Parisien, he is likely to be transfer-listed instead.
Ekitike has struggled to break into PSG’s star-studded front line, which includes Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar. He has managed just four goals in 27 matches across all competitions for the club, disappointing many pundits who had high hopes for him. PSG boss Christophe Galtier has admitted that the young striker has been unhappy with his “limited playing time”, but also suggested that he needs to work harder in training to earn his place in the team.
Last summer, Ekitike reportedly rejected a £33million bid from Newcastle United in favour of joining PSG. Manchester United were also said to be interested in signing him at the time. However, it now appears that his future at PSG is uncertain, and he may be on the move again soon.
It remains to be seen which clubs will be interested in signing Ekitike if he does become available. Newcastle United may still be keen to bring him to St James’ Park, while Manchester United could also revive their interest. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are known for their ability to develop young talent, so they could also be potential destinations for the Frenchman. Inter Milan, meanwhile, have a history of signing players from PSG, so they cannot be ruled out either.
Regardless of where he ends up, Ekitike will need to work hard to prove himself at his new club. He has shown glimpses of his potential at PSG, but he will need to be more consistent if he wants to establish himself as a top-level striker. With the right guidance and support, he could become a star of the future, but he will need to be patient and persistent if he wants to achieve his goals.
