Paris Saint-Germain have held talks with Marcus Rashford’s representatives as they consider a shock late move for the Manchester United forward, according to reports.

The French champions may have Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi in their attack but they are still keen to bolster their front-line options ahead of what promises to be a gruelling season.

They have already signed Hugo Ekitike from Reims but with Angel Di Maria having departed on a free transfer and Mauro Icardi edging towards an exit, they are looking to add another versatile forward to their ranks.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, that has seen PSG make a surprise move for Rashford and they have already held talks with the England international’s camp.

Despite United’s own lack of attacking options, there is a feeling that a deal might be possible – particularly given that Rashford’s current deal is due to expire next summer.

The Red Devils can, however, trigger an additional one year extension – a clause they have inserted into the contracts of many players, though several, notably Paul Pogba, have left on free transfers a year later anyway.

It remains to be seen if Rashford would be open to moving to Paris, but the switch to Ligue 1 might provide the chance to get his career back on track after a stagnant 18 months.

PSG had originally hoped to lure Robert Lewandowski to the Parc des Princes this summer, though he opted instead for Barcelona, and Rashford would represent a very different profile of striker.

Manager Christophe Galtier has made no secret of his desire to sign a new forward before the window closes and, at a press conference on Thursday, confirmed that the club are working to bolster their attack.

‘Yes, we would like to bring in another forward. We have a very busy schedule, so we would like to bring someone in,’ said the French coach ahead of Saturday’s Ligue 1 clash against Montpellier.

‘The club is working hard on that. I am in constant contact with Luis Campos [PSG football advisor], the board and the president. We must not make any mistakes. We must not rush things. We have to do something realistic.

‘There are no guarantees. I know the club won’t sign anyone for the sake of it. It would need to be someone who can really bring something to the squad and that is what the club are working on.’

Rashford started last season on the sidelines after undergoing shoulder surgery and only managed to net four times in 25 Premier League appearances after hitting double digits in each of his three previous campaigns.
