Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico is currently in a serious condition in hospital after falling from a horse. The 29-year-old was on the bench for PSG during their 1-1 draw against Strasbourg, which secured their Ligue 1 title triumph on Saturday night. According to Spanish outlet Relevo, Rico is now in hospital in Spain after suffering a head injury when the horse he was riding was hit by a runaway horse in the Spanish province of Huelva. He was taken to the Virgen del Rocio hospital in his hometown of Seville by helicopter and has had to be intubated as a result of his injury, with tests continuing to be carried out.
Rico started his career at the Sevilla academy and made his first team debut in 2014. He spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Fulham where he kept six clean sheets in 32 appearances across all competitions. Following his spell in west London, Rico signed for PSG on a season-long loan before making his move permanent in 2020. He has made a total of 24 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions, amassing 14 clean sheets since he joined. Sevilla tweeted their support for the goalkeeper, wishing him a speedy recovery. Rico had travelled to Spain following PSG’s celebrations as boss Christophe Galtier gave his squad a day off.
