Mauricio Pochettino Confident in Chelsea’s Support and Time for Success
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino remains optimistic about his future at the club, expressing confidence in the support of the owners and their commitment to giving him the necessary time to achieve success.
Pressure to Bounce Back
After a string of three consecutive away defeats, Chelsea currently finds themselves in 12th place in the Premier League table. The team is under pressure to turn things around and secure a victory in their upcoming home match against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Trust in the Club
Pochettino, who signed a two-year deal with the option of an additional 12 months when he joined Chelsea in July, is not concerned about the possibility of his tenure being cut short. Drawing from his experience at Tottenham Hotspur, where he was employed from 2014 to 2019, Pochettino emphasizes his trust in the club’s leadership.
He states, “I am a person that always trusts and trusts until someone shows me I cannot trust any more. But I trust, I trust. Of course, I know that I need to deliver. I know football, how football is. My decision to sign here was because I trust when they offered me the job. I am going to keep trusting because the club is showing me that they trust in my job.”
Belief in the Project
Despite facing criticism for the significant changes made since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake consortium took over in May 2022, including substantial player investments and a staff overhaul, Pochettino remains steadfast in his belief that the project will ultimately succeed.
He affirms, “We have good people building the house, good architects. We have the best company, architects, very creative and good – already proven. But when you want to build something, you need solid foundations which sometimes are affected because of the nature of the circumstances. You dig the hole and there is water – it is not because of the company. (There is) an unexpected situation which delays the possibility to move quicker than you expected.”
Captain Reece James’ Injury
Chelsea will make a decision on Monday regarding captain Reece James’ hamstring injury, determining whether surgery will be necessary for his recovery.
