Steve Cooper, the Nottingham Forest manager, is the favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked, according to bookmakers Betfair. Cooper was available at 11/10 to be the 14th managerial casualty of the 2022-23 season, but his odds have shortened dramatically to 3/10 following their 2-1 defeat to Leeds at Elland Road. The result extended their winless run to eight matches and left Forest in 17th position, only above the relegation zone on goal difference. If Cooper does depart, the next boss will have a serious challenge on their hands with Aston Villa, Manchester United, Liverpool and Brighton over the next four games. David Moyes is next in the betting at 6/1. The Hammers have 27 points and two valuable games in hand over the majority of their relegation rivals.
Notoriously trigger-happy Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is already on his fourth manager of the campaign at Olympiacos and isn’t afraid to chop and change. After the defeat, Cooper said: “I will always be grateful to the supporters. That is why winning is so joyous and losing is so disappointing because they have been so good for me. When we let them down, as we did tonight, it is painful. I always feel grateful to the support and certainly don’t feel entitled by it. If anything, the more support I get, the more determined and paranoid I get about letting them down. That is why tonight I feel like I do.”
Betfair’s odds for the next Premier League manager to leave his position are as follows: Steve Cooper – 3/10; David Moyes – 6/1; No Manager To Leave – 17/2; Jurgen Klopp – 10/1; Thomas Frank – 14/1; Roberto De Zerbi – 20/1; Ruben Selles – 20/1; Julen Lopetegui – 20/1; Gary O’Neil – 20/1; Cristian Stellini – 25/1.
