Kieran McKenna: A Managerial Tug-of-War Between Brighton and Crystal Palace
Kieran McKenna, the 37-year-old boss of Ipswich Town, may soon find himself in the middle of a managerial tug-of-war between Brighton and Crystal Palace. Both clubs have expressed interest in McKenna, who is currently trying to lead Ipswich to promotion in the Championship.
McKenna has already made a name for himself as a successful coach at Manchester United and has now impressed as a No 1 at Ipswich Town. Brighton, known for spotting talented managers, have included McKenna on their emergency list in case their current manager, Roberto De Zerbi, is tempted away.
Brighton’s attacking style of play would be a good fit for McKenna, especially considering the club’s awareness that their highly-rated Italian manager is attracting interest from bigger clubs. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, see McKenna as a potential long-term successor for their current manager, Roy Hodgson.
While Palace have also been linked with free agent Steve Cooper, McKenna is seen as an attractive option due to his lack of previous sackings. Palace is still exploring their options and will make a decision at the end of the season.
Ipswich Town has a compensation clause of approximately £4 million in McKenna’s contract, which would not deter either Brighton or Crystal Palace from pursuing him.
Currently sitting second in the Championship table, Ipswich Town is on track for promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.
