Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, has dismissed the notion that a lack of discipline is to blame for the team’s high number of yellow cards this season. Despite being the Premier League team with the most yellow cards, Pochettino believes that it is the players’ determination to improve the team’s performance that is leading to their rash actions on the field.

Yellow Card Accumulation

During Chelsea’s recent 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Christmas Eve, the team received five yellow cards. Among those booked was Cole Palmer, who will now miss the upcoming game against Crystal Palace due to accumulating five yellow cards this season. Raheem Sterling also received a yellow card for simulation during stoppage time.

Injuries and Player Absences

Pochettino also pointed out that injuries have contributed to Chelsea’s struggles this season. With at least eight players currently unfit for the upcoming match against Crystal Palace, the manager expressed frustration at not being able to field a full-strength team consistently.

Pochettino’s Perspective

Pochettino emphasized that playing for Chelsea comes with immense pressure, and the players’ frustration and lack of experience may lead to mistakes on the field. He stated, “It’s not discipline. We need to have more capacity to read the situation of the game.”

Looking Ahead

Pochettino’s main focus is on recovering injured players and addressing the team’s performance issues. He expressed disappointment at not being able to utilize all his players simultaneously, which has resulted in inconsistent results throughout the season.
