Mauricio Pochettino and Noni Madueke have no lingering issues at Chelsea
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino and forward Noni Madueke have put any lingering issues between them behind them, after the manager publicly criticised the youngster for partying while out injured.
Madueke arrived at Chelsea from PSV in January but has not had much of an impact, making just three substitute appearances so far this season. That is partly due to a muscle injury he has been dealing with early in the season, but while he was out with the complaint a video emerged of the 21-year-old partying.
Pochettino’s Public Criticism
Pochettino was not thrilled about the clip of Madueke on a night out, saying: ‘It is clear. This video, we were talking about that with him. I think it is a thing that we need to avoid. All the players need to know that when we are a player of Chelsea to try to avoid these things. It wasn’t a big issue but we always need to avoid these types of situations.
‘I think it is really clear that he needs to avoid it. But he is recovering from the national team and we will see if he is fit and can be involved and selected. But we talk about what you are asking me because it is a thing that the young players need to improve on. Not only him. Many, many players need to be professional and to have respect because of the badge we have here.’
No Lingering Issues
However, that is all behind them now, with Madueke coming off the bench in the Premier League win at Fulham last week and Caught Offside report that there are no lingering issues between manager and player.
The youngster reportedly responded well to the disciplinary situation and is firmly in first team contention again. Madueke was on the bench at Burnley on Saturday as Chelsea won 4-1, but did not get on the pitch as the Blues climbed to 11th in the table after a very sticky start to the campaign.
Chelsea’s Recent Form
Chelsea have now won three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since April 2019, with Pochettino’s side looking much improved since his arrival in January.
The Blues have been boosted by the return of key players such as Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, who have all been absent through injury in recent weeks.
Pochettino has also been able to get the best out of players such as Mason Mount, Reece James and Ben Chilwell, who have all been in excellent form since his arrival.
