Reports suggest that Mauricio Pochettino has already identified two areas of the Chelsea squad he would like to strengthen ahead of his expected appointment as manager. The Argentine beat off competition from the likes of Luis Enrique and Ruben Amorim to become the standout candidate for the job. As part of his discussions with the club, Pochettino is believed to have asked for a greater say in Chelsea’s transfer strategy, feeling that more investment is required this summer. The former Tottenham manager feels that a new striker must be brought in, in addition to RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku, and an out-and-out striker will be sought. The other position Pochettino and Chelsea will look to strengthen is the number six role, with N’Golo Kante yet to sign a new contract and Mateo Kovacic being used sporadically due to injury. Central midfield is an area that is starting to look a little light, and Chelsea may revisit moves for the likes of Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister.
