Suns Fall Short Against Nets Despite Debut of “Big 3”
The Phoenix Suns finally showcased their highly anticipated “Big 3” lineup consisting of Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and Kevin Durant. However, their efforts were not enough to secure a victory against the Brooklyn Nets, resulting in a 116-112 loss on Wednesday. Despite Booker’s impressive 34-point performance, the Suns’ record dropped to 13-11.
Nets Triumph with Strong Performances by Thomas and Bridges
The Brooklyn Nets, led by Cam Thomas with 24 points and Mikal Bridges with 21 points, improved their record to 13-10 with the win. The team continues to excel during their series of road games.
Durant contributed 27 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the loss. Beal added 14 points, four assists, and a rebound. Booker, who led in scoring, also contributed 12 assists and six rebounds.
Despite facing various injuries throughout the season, the Suns will host the New York Knicks in their next game on Friday.
Getting a Fuller Picture of the Suns
Finally witnessing the Suns’ “Big 3” on the court together provides a starting point for evaluating the team. Previously, without this lineup, it was challenging to gauge their true potential. Although Wednesday’s loss does not significantly alter the conversation, it marks a turning point. The question of whether the Suns can contend remains unanswered and will require more time to determine. While Phoenix may possess a talent advantage on most nights, many teams in the Western Conference have better chemistry and defense. As demonstrated by Wednesday’s loss, the Suns have a long way to go.
Areas for Improvement for Phoenix
Despite impressive individual performances by Booker, Durant, and Nurkić, the Suns still suffered a loss at home. Even with the “Big 3” intact, the absence of rotation regulars Grayson Allen, Josh Okogie, and Eric Gordon, along with Beal’s rustiness after missing most of the season, hindered their success. To become contenders, the Suns must focus on improving their defense. Coach Frank Vogel highlighted several areas where the team needs to enhance their performance. This defensive improvement becomes the team’s primary objective.
