Phil Jones has been left out of Manchester United’s 25-man Premier League squad for the 2022/23 season, meaning he may well have played his last league match for the club.
The England international has clearly not caught the attention of new manager Erik tan Hag and his omission from the official squad means he cannot play in the Premier League at all this campaign for United.
He could still turn out in the cup competitions, and he will hope that he is given the opportunity to do so, but clearly out of Ten Hag’s plans, the 30-year-old may have played his last game for the club.
Jones’ contract at Old Trafford runs out next year, and although the club has the ability to extend it by a further season, that seems unlikely.
The likes of Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams have made it into the 25-man squad ahead of Jones, while United have chosen to name four goalkeepers, including Nathan Bishop.
Jones was on the fringes of the Red Devils first team last season under Ralf Rangnick, making four appearances in the Premier League.

Clubs can also name Under-21 players who are able to play in the Premier League despite not being in the 25-man squad.
