Peter Schmeichel on Scott McTominay Saving Erik ten Hag from Man Utd Sack

Scott McTominay rescues Erik ten Hag from sack after Manchester United’s dramatic Brentford win

Peter Schmeichel believes Erik ten Hag was rescued from the sack by Scott McTominay following Manchester United’s astonishing late comeback against Brentford.

The Red Devils appeared to be sliding towards a third straight home defeat when they fell behind to Mathias Jensen’s calamitous first half goal.

United still trailed heading into injury-time, only for late substitute McTominay to stage an astonishing intervention with two stoppage time goals that sent Old Trafford into a state of euphoria.

Reports Claim Ten Hag Maintained Support of Club’s Hierarchy

Reports earlier this week claimed Ten Hag maintained the total support of the club’s hierarchy, but another directionless performance that seemed destined to end in another demoralising defeat could well have prompted a ‘rash decision’ according to Schmeichel.

‘The mood will change at the club will change for sure because you end this sort of spell before the international break with a win,’ Schmeichel told Premier League Productions.

‘Had that been another defeat some rash decisions might have been made. You never know. You kind of never know what happens in football.’

McTominay Delighted to Have Contributed to Significant Victory

Matchwinner McTominay, meanwhile, was delighted to have contributed to such a significant victory and claimed it was arguably his best ever experience in a United shirt.

He said: ‘Massive. Everyone knows we are in a difficult period at the minute, but we have fighters in the group that want to keep going right until the end.

‘It could have been anyone on that pitch scoring the two goals. Really pleased and hopefully we can build on that from here.

‘Sometimes we feel like we are in our own bubble with people outside only saying negative things, but we just have to block that out and be better after the international break.’

Conclusion

Scott McTominay’s two injury time goals saved Manchester United from another demoralizing defeat and potentially saved Erik ten Hag’s job as manager. The Red Devils will be hoping to build on this dramatic victory and return to winning ways after the international break.
