Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has revealed that Julia Roberts is one of his three idols and how the Hollywood actress broke his heart. Guardiola made the revelation during a post-match press conference after his team’s 7-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League. He said that he considers Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Julia Roberts as his three idols. However, he went on to explain how Roberts’ decision to visit Old Trafford instead of the Etihad in 2016 will always be a disappointment to him.

Guardiola stated that he feels like a failure in the Champions League and that even if he wins it three times in a row, it will not compare to the disappointment he felt when Roberts visited Manchester and chose to watch Manchester United play instead of Manchester City. He said that Roberts came to Manchester during the period when City was better than United, but she still chose to visit Old Trafford.

Roberts visited Old Trafford in November 2016 and watched Manchester United play against West Ham. She attended the game with her husband Daniel Moder and her three children who are Manchester United supporters. After the match, she met with United stars Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick.

Guardiola’s other idols have also snubbed City games for other clubs. NBA legend Michael Jordan watched Paris Saint-Germain beat Reims 4-1 in September 2018, while Tiger Woods watched Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Liverpool in September 2006.

After Guardiola’s comments, Manchester United cheekily trolled City by posting three pictures of Roberts’ visit to Old Trafford on Twitter, captioning them: “Throwing it back to when Julia Roberts visited Old Trafford.”

In conclusion, Pep Guardiola has named Julia Roberts as one of his three idols and expressed his disappointment that she chose to visit Old Trafford instead of the Etihad during her visit to Manchester in 2016. Despite winning the Champions League, Guardiola believes that this disappointment will always nag at him.
