John Stones Injury Update: Pep Guardiola Provides Update on Man City Defender’s Ankle Problem
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided an injury update on John Stones after the defender hobbled off in the first half of their 3-1 win over Everton. Stones, who has struggled with injuries this season, was replaced after just 43 minutes and appears to be facing another spell on the sidelines due to an ankle problem.
“It doesn’t look good but we will see,” Guardiola said in an interview with Amazon Prime. “It’s his ankle.” The England international has only featured in eight Premier League matches this season due to a previous hip injury.
Guardiola admitted that he did not know the severity of Stones’ injury but expressed hope that it is not serious and that the defender can make a quick return. “Sometimes you have seasons in this way. They start going bad, then more bad and more bad. Hopefully the damage is not big and he can come back soon.”
In addition to Stones’ injury, Guardiola also provided updates on Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland. De Bruyne has been sidelined since the first game of the season with a hamstring injury but is now training with the team. However, Guardiola emphasized the need for caution due to fatigue and the seriousness of the initial injury.
“Kevin is training with the team. He’s close. But he had fatigue yesterday and we have to be careful,” Guardiola said. “The injury was serious so it’s step-by-step. But he is training with us. He’s so positive. I would love him to play the next game but it’s important to keep him fit for a long time.”
As for Haaland, the Norwegian striker is currently training alone and has not yet joined the team for training sessions. Guardiola stated that Haaland is improving but did not provide a timeline for his return.
Overall, Manchester City will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Stones and the return of De Bruyne and Haaland to bolster their squad in the upcoming matches.
