Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has warned his side that there is no room for error if they are to retain the Premier League title this season. The Citizens took a huge step towards defending their crown with a 4-1 win against league leaders Arsenal on Wednesday, cutting the Gunners’ lead to two points. However, Arsenal have played two extra matches than City, making Guardiola’s side the favourites to go on and win the title.
The Manchester club are also through to the final of the FA Cup and the semi-finals of the Champions League, giving them a chance to replicate the Treble won by Manchester United in 1999. Despite being in a strong position, Guardiola has made it clear that his team must remain focused and cannot afford any slip-ups.
Speaking after the match, Guardiola said: ‘We cannot lose our focus. Now it’s in our hands. These next three games will dictate if we can do what we want to do. The reality is we’re still behind Arsenal. It will not be easy for us, but it is game by game and we see what happens. When it’s in our hands, we have to use it.’
Kevin de Bruyne was named Man of the Match after scoring twice and setting up John Stones to make it 2-0 before half-time. Erling Haaland rounded off the victory in the closing stages.
