Bernardo Silva to miss Manchester City’s clash with Nottingham Forest due to injury
Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva will miss Saturday’s clash with Nottingham Forest due to injury. The Portugal international was forced off in the first half of City’s 3-1 victory over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
Speaking after the game, Pep Guardiola confirmed that Silva would not be available for the upcoming game. It remains unclear whether Silva will be available for City’s Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle United next Wednesday.
City are already without Kevin De Bruyne, while Jack Grealish and Mateo Kovacic were unable to make the bench for City’s Champions League opener on Tuesday.
‘When we have five really, really important players injured, to sustain that for a long, long time will be difficult,’ Guardiola said. ‘But it is what it is. We cannot have, with the salaries, with the transfers, with the budget, 55 players, it would cause chaos for the club. Sometimes it will happen, unfortunately that’s what it is.’
Julian Alvarez scored twice in Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade, while Gabriel Jesus also got on the scoresheet. Despite the victory, Guardiola is aware of the difficulties his side face with so many key players out injured.
‘A long time for Kevin, John [Stones] still didn’t play, it’s a little bit long, maybe Kova is coming back, Jack [Grealish] is maybe there in one week, 10 days. But after we have to make the conditions or we are in trouble. It is what it is, I’m not going to say,’ oh, we have a lot of injuries’. With the players that we have we’ll go for it.’
Manchester City will be hoping to continue their winning form when they face Nottingham Forest on Saturday. However, they will have to do so without Bernardo Silva who is set to miss out due to injury. The extent of Silva’s injury is yet to be determined and it remains to be seen whether he will be available for City’s Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle United next Wednesday.
In the meantime, Guardiola and his team will have to make do with the players they have available and hope that their injury woes don’t continue to mount up. For more news and updates on Manchester City and other sports teams, check out Metro Sport’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
