Kris Letang Sets Record with Six Assists in Penguins’ Victory
Kris Letang of the Pittsburgh Penguins made a remarkable comeback after the Christmas Break, delivering a record-setting performance. Letang tied a record by assisting on six goals in the Penguins’ impressive 7-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.
Record-Tying Performance
Letang’s achievement makes him the seventh defenseman in NHL history to record six assists in a single game. The last player to accomplish this feat was Gary Suter of the Calgary Flames on April 4, 1986.
Setting a New Record
Letang’s exceptional performance in Wednesday’s game also set a new record for defensemen. He contributed five assists in the second period alone, showcasing his incredible playmaking abilities. Prior to this game, Letang had only one assist in eight games, but he quickly turned things around with a goal and two assists in the Penguins’ previous game against the Ottawa Senators.
Penguins’ Point Streak Continues
The Penguins’ victory extends their point streak to four games, with a record of 3-0-1. This strong performance is crucial as they strive to secure a playoff spot in the competitive Eastern Conference.
Impressive Season for Letang
Despite being demoted from the top power play unit in favor of Erik Karlsson, who was acquired by the Penguins in August, Letang is having an outstanding 18th season. He is on pace to achieve at least 50 assists for the third time in his career.
Currently, Letang has accumulated 17 points this season, consisting of 14 assists and three goals. The Penguins’ victory improves their overall record to 16-13-4, placing them 11th in the Eastern Conference.
