Paul Pogba’s brother Mathias charged over alleged plot to extort money from Juventus and France midfielder

Mathias Pogba has been charged for his alleged involvement in the blackmail plot against his brother, Paul Pogba.

The ex-Manchester United midfielder, and his lawyer Rafaela Pimenta, filed a criminal lawsuit in August, claiming a group of men had been blackmailing him to pay them £11.2m for historic protection.

The 29-year-old said he was taken to a flat in Lagny-sur-Marne in March and forced to hand over €100,000.

He also claimed acts of intimidation were carried out in Manchester in April.

And later he says he suffered the same around the Italian city of Turin following his summer transfer to Juventus.

Now it has been reported that his brother, Mathias, has been charged and detained over his involvement in the alleged blackmail plot.

Four other people have also been placed under formal investigation for extortion and criminal association, sources told Reuters and Agence France-Presse.

Mathias Pogba’s lawyer Yassine Bouzrou said his client maintains his innocence.

Bouzrou told French broadcaster BFMTV: “We are going to challenge this decision. My client has committed no criminal offence.

“We do not understand the decision to keep him in custody, especially as he has an alibi for the night of the alleged kidnap.”
