Paul Mullin Credits Conor McGregor for Wrexham Charity Link-Up

Date:

Conor McGregor, the legendary UFC fighter, has thrown his weight behind Wrexham’s bid for promotion to the Football League. Since being taken over by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in November 2020, things have been looking up for The Dragons. With just three games left to play, they currently sit at the top of the National League with 104 points, which would typically be enough to secure promotion to League Two. However, Notts County has matched them stride for stride all season and is just one point behind, so everything is still to play for in the final few matches.

McGregor, looking to capitalize on the excitement surrounding the non-league promotion battle, has announced that he’s linked up with the Turf Hotel in Wrexham. The former dual-weight UFC champion is putting his beer on sale outside The Racecourse Ground to raise money for a charity backed by the club’s top scorer, Paul Mullin. “Taking my Forged Stout tank into the absolute magic that is happening at Wrexham AFC, and in aid of helping a great charity “Your Space” that raises awareness and support for autism. Drop by and show love if you are in town. Try out the game changer Forged Stout,” he tweeted.

Mullin expressed his gratitude, tweeting, “We appreciate it, Champ Champ.” McGregor is known to be a massive football fan and has expressed an interest in owning a club. He previously put himself forward when Manchester United and Chelsea came on the market. ‘Notorious’ has spoken about potentially investing in Celtic and Liverpool, but nothing has come of his desire to get into the business of football yet.

Currently, McGregor is busy preparing for his long-awaited UFC comeback. The biggest star in MMA history hasn’t fought since suffering a catastrophic leg injury in the first round of his third fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. McGregor is now fully fit and booked to face Michael Chandler, but their fight does not yet have a date, venue, or weight – although it’s believed more fight information will be released soon.

The Irishman has been locked in a dispute with the UFC’s drug testing agency for several months because they want him to submit to six months of random testing before his return bout. McGregor initially refused and insisted he only needs to pass two drug tests, but last week he hinted he’s back in the US Anti-Doping Agency testing pool and suggested the issue has been resolved.
