Goncalo Ramos: Portugal Striker Joins Paris St-Germain on Loan Deal
=====================================================================
Paris St-Germain have added to their already impressive squad with the signing of Portugal striker Goncalo Ramos on a season-long loan deal from Benfica. The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for the Portuguese side, scoring 27 goals in 47 appearances in the 2022-23 campaign.
Ramos has attracted plenty of attention from top European clubs after his hat trick for Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar last year, and his arrival at PSG comes amid reports that Neymar has told club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi he wants to leave the club this summer.
The news of Neymar’s potential departure comes alongside the summer long contract stand off with PSG’s all time leading goalscorer Kylian Mbappe, who is refusing to sign a year’s extension to his contract which ends next summer and wants to join Real Madrid instead. Mbappe is currently not training with the first team as they prepare for the start of the Ligue 1 season on Saturday.
Ramos’ arrival at PSG marks the ninth major signing of the window for the French side, and they have an option to buy the forward at the end of his loan, similar to the deal that saw Mbappe arrive at the club from Monaco in 2017.
PSG have already signed goalkeeper Arnau Tenas, defenders Milan Skriniar and Lucas Hernandez, midfielders Marco Asensio, Manuel Ugarte, Lee Kang-in and Xavi Simons plus forward Hugo Ekitike, and Ramos’ addition to the squad will only bolster their chances of success this season.
The Portuguese forward will be looking to make an immediate impact at PSG and prove his worth to the club, and his impressive goal scoring record for Benfica suggests he could be a valuable asset for the French side this season.
It remains to be seen whether Neymar will stay at PSG or move on this summer, but with Ramos now in their ranks they will be hoping to mount a strong challenge for the Ligue 1 title this season regardless of what happens with their star forward.
