Paris St-Germain have condemned the “unacceptable and insulting” behaviour of some of their fans, who gathered outside Neymar’s Paris home on Wednesday to protest the club’s recent poor form. The Ligue 1 side have lost three of their last six league games and are out of the Champions League. In response to the protests, PSG have increased security at the homes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Marco Verratti and manager Christophe Galtier, as well as at the club’s training ground.
The protests come after Messi, 35, was suspended by PSG for two weeks for travelling to Saudi Arabia without the club’s permission, and Neymar, 31, was ruled out for the rest of the season in March due to an ankle injury. The actions of the fans were prompted by PSG’s home defeat by Lorient which reduced their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to five points with five games remaining.
In a statement, PSG said: “Paris St-Germain condemns in the strongest possible terms the unacceptable and insulting actions. Whatever the differences of opinion, nothing justifies such behaviour.” The club refused to comment when asked about security measures by BBC Sport.
