Their failure to compete in the Champions League, which saw them knocked out by eventual winners Real Madrid in the Round of 16 was a huge blow.

Europe’s premier club competition has long been coveted by PSG owners Qatar Sports Investments.

Meanwhile they also only reached the last-16 of the Coupe de France too, despite having Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and a host of other stars on their books.

As a result, Argentine boss Pochettino will be moved on and Nice head coach Christophe Galtier will take his place once a deal has been agreed between all parties.

Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “Paris Saint-Germain hope to resolve manager situation next week. Top of the list, always Christophe Galtier since 10 days – PSG, now optimistic on talks with Nice.”

Meanwhile, it appears a deal seeing Galtier move to the club would also grease the wheels of two potential summer transfers.

Paris Saint-Germain may have some of the best attackers and defenders in world football, but their midfield needs improvements and two stars have been linked with the club.

Former Bayern Munich and Benfica star Renato Sanches, who has been excellent with Lille in recent season, is one of those wanted.

As is Porto midfielder and Manchester United transfer target Vitinha.

The former Wolves loanee excelled in the Primeira Liga last term, despite the Premier League side declining to exercise an option to buy the player at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Now, though, a move to PSG could happen.

Romano added: “Mauricio Pochettino will leave, no changes – Galtier would approve both Renato Sanches & Vitinha deals.”
