Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Signs With Besiktas
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has signed a three-year deal with Besiktas, becoming the fourth senior player to leave Liverpool this summer and join a new club. The 29-year-old midfielder had been linked with a move to Brentford, Aston Villa, and sides in MLS and the Saudi Pro League, but has opted to move to Istanbul instead.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Career So Far
Oxlade-Chamberlain began his career at Southampton before joining Arsenal in 2011. He then moved to Liverpool in 2017, making 146 appearances for the Reds and winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup. However, his time at Anfield was hampered by injury problems and he was one of four players released by the club this summer.
Besiktas: A New Challenge
Oxlade-Chamberlain is the sixth Englishman to represent Besiktas, following Les Ferdinand, Rob McDonald, Alan Walsh, Dele Alli, and Nathan Redmond. Alli and Redmond have since returned to the Premier League, but there are still plenty of familiar names in Senol Gunes’ squad. This includes summer signings Daniel Amartey from Leicester and Arthur Masuaku from West Ham, ex-Porto striker Vincent Aboubakar, and Croatia forward Ante Rebic.
Good Luck, Ox!
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contribution to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side cannot be undersold and he will be hoping to make an impact at Besiktas. The Turkish side will be hoping that he can stay fit and help them challenge for trophies in the coming years. We wish him all the best in his new adventure.
