Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has revealed that the club attempted to sign Erling Haaland last summer but could not break their wage structure for the prolific forward. Haaland signed for Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund for an initial fee of £51m, with a total of around £85.5m when taking into account agent fees and other add-ons. Every major club in Europe held some kind of interest in the Norwegian, but there were few that had a realistic chance of signing him, given the finances of the total package, including his enormous wages. Even a giant club like Bayern were eventually put off the deal, with Khan saying that they could not justify the expense given how they manage their finances, even if he is the most feared striker on the planet.
