Oldest British Striker Celebrates 90th Birthday with 5 Goal Spectacle
In a remarkable display of skill and athleticism, Britain’s oldest striker, Mike Fisher, celebrated his 90th birthday by scoring an impressive five goals. Nicknamed “Ninja” for his lightning-fast agility in the box, Fisher showcases his talents in the popular sport of walking football for Old Corinthians in Walsall.
Mike Fisher, a resident of Bloxwich, has become a legend among his teammates and opponents alike. When asked about his nickname, Fisher explains, “They all call me Ninja. Because they say I’m gone in the blink of an eye, just like that. One minute you think you’ve collared me, and the next minute I’m gone and the ball is in the back of the net.” It seems that Fisher’s speed and uncanny ability to score goals have earned him this fitting moniker.
While some may not recognize the name Mike Fisher, everyone in the walking football community knows who Ninja is. Fisher shares, “If you ask anyone if they play with Mike Fisher, they won’t have a clue who you’re on about – but if you say ‘do you play with Ninja,’ they will know who you mean.” It is clear that Fisher’s skill and reputation precede him, making him a formidable force on the field.
Despite his age, Fisher’s love for football remains unwavering. He states, “I still love football, and I’ll keep going for as long as I can – or at least while I’m still scoring on a regular basis. That feeling of scoring goals never gets old – even if I am.” Fisher’s dedication to the sport is evident as he has been playing walking football three times a week for eight years now. He consistently scores four or five goals per game and has even had occasions where he scored an incredible ten goals in a single match.
Fisher’s recent five-goal spectacle coincided with another impressive performance by Erling Haaland of Manchester City. Just days after Fisher’s achievement, Haaland also netted five goals in a game, although against a different opponent. While Haaland’s feat may have garnered more attention in the football world, Fisher’s remarkable display at the age of 90 deserves equal recognition and admiration.
Fisher’s passion for the sport and his ability to defy age-related limitations serve as an inspiration to football enthusiasts worldwide. His dedication and love for the game are a testament to the timeless joy that football brings. As Fisher continues to score goals and make his mark on the walking football scene, it is clear that age is just a number when it comes to the beautiful game.
