According to talkSPORT, Steve Cooper is facing increasing pressure to keep his job as Nottingham Forest’s manager due to the club’s poor form. The Reds have been struggling and are now in a relegation battle, sitting in 16th place in the Premier League table. Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, is reportedly concerned about their recent performances. The team has failed to win a match in their last six Premier League games, causing them to drop down the table. They are currently just two points above the bottom three and three points ahead of Southampton in 20th place.
If Forest loses to Wolves at the City Ground, Cooper could be in real danger of losing his job. The team will then face fellow relegation rivals Leeds in their next match, which will be a crucial six-pointer at Elland Road. This is not the first time that Cooper has been under pressure this season, as Forest is back in the top-flight for the first time since 1999.
In October, after a 4-0 defeat to Leicester, Forest was rooted to the bottom of the table, and Cooper was rumored to be on the verge of being axed. It was even reported that Rafael Bentiez was being lined up to replace him. However, Cooper received a surprise vote of confidence when he was offered a new contract until 2025.
Forest has invested heavily this season, with Marinakis spending over £160million on 30 players in the last two transfer windows. Despite this investment, the team has struggled to find its footing in the Premier League.
Cooper is not the only manager facing an uncertain future. West Ham’s David Moyes is also fighting to keep his job beyond the summer. Despite being the favorites to win the European Conference League, the Hammers are currently in 18th place. Owner David Sullivan is reluctant to part ways with Moyes before the end of the season, but his resolve could be tested if Southampton wins at the London Stadium on Sunday.
