Erik ten Hag was full of praise for his injury-ravaged back four after they kept a clean sheet in Manchester United’s 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devils were without a number of first-team defenders, including captain Harry Maguire, but still managed to keep the hosts at bay throughout the match.
Ten Hag was delighted with his side’s defensive display, saying: “I’m really pleased with the way the back four played today. They worked hard and showed great resilience in the face of adversity.
“It was a difficult game against a good Nottingham Forest side, but we managed to keep a clean sheet and that’s a great achievement. We had to dig deep and the players did that.”
The result was United’s second consecutive win in the Premier League, and it lifted them into fourth place in the table.
Ten Hag was delighted with the performance of his side, saying: “It was a great team performance today. We had to work hard for the win, but we showed great character and determination to get the job done.
“We created some good chances and took them when they came. I’m very proud of the players and the way they responded to the challenge.”
The victory was a timely boost for United, who have been struggling for form in recent weeks. Ten Hag is now hoping his side can build on this result and kick on for the remainder of the season.
He said: “This win is a big boost for us and it gives us confidence going into our next few games. We have some tough fixtures coming up, but if we can continue to show this kind of spirit and determination then I’m sure we can get some positive results.”
