N’Golo Kante still faces months out, Wesley Fofana suffers two-week setback, but Reece James is back: Graham Potter gives update on Chelsea injury crisis with seven stars unavailable for Bournemouth clash

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has given an update on the club’s injury crisis with a number of players still unavailable.

Before the World Cup break, the Blues were missing a number of key players – and it resulted in a terrible dip in form.

Potter has not had a full-strength squad at his disposal

Potter’s men are winless in their last five Premier League matches, including a run of three straight defeats.

But despite the six-week break from domestic action, Chelsea’s situation has barely improved.

Star man Reece James has recovered from the knee injury which ruled him out of the World Cup.

However, striker Armando Broja looks set to miss the rest of the season with an injury sustained in a recent friendly against Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, defender Wesley Fofana suffered a new setback in a friendly against Brentford which will rule him out for a further two weeks.

Elsewhere, Ben Chilwell and Ruben Loftus-Cheek continue to nurse long-term issues, while N’Golo Kante is not expected back for another two months.

James returning is a huge boost for Potter

“Wesley just had a little setback which can sometimes happen at the very last stage of the rehab, so he will be out for a couple of weeks.

“Armando is a big loss in terms of the time he’s out. Reece is back in, he’s been training with us and completed 65 minutes in the week.

“We’re still without Ruben, Ben and Kante. Mendy has had a couple of days training with us.”

Chelsea had 12 players at the World Cup in Qatar, with Morocco’s Hakim Ziyech and Croatia’s Mateo Kovacic reach the third-place play-off on Saturday.

Potter also confirmed that Ziyech and Kovacic are yet to return but the rest of his World Cup stars are back in training.
