Newcastle United Pursue Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace
Newcastle United is not giving up on their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. According to sources, the club has made a third bid for the 24-year-old, believed to be around £60 million. The offer is structured with £55 million up front and the possibility of £5 million in add-ons. However, Palace values Guehi at close to £70 million, making negotiations challenging.
Guehi has been a standout performer at Euro 2024, catching the attention of several top clubs. Since joining Palace from Chelsea in 2021, he has made 111 appearances for the Eagles. With just under two years left on his contract, Palace is concerned about the possibility of Guehi running down his contract and leaving on a free transfer.
It’s not just Guehi that Newcastle is interested in. The club is also exploring the possibility of bringing former talisman Wilfried Zaha back to the club on loan. Zaha left Palace at the end of the 2022-23 season to join Galatasaray in pursuit of his dream of playing in the Champions League. However, Palace is open to the idea of Zaha returning temporarily.
Zaha, who made 458 appearances for Palace and scored 90 goals, is still a highly regarded player. He had a successful season with Galatasaray, scoring 10 goals in 42 appearances, including a crucial goal against Manchester United in the Champions League group stage. Palace is looking to strengthen their attacking options after losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.
In addition to the pursuit of Guehi and the potential return of Zaha, Palace is facing interest in their center-back Joachim Andersen. Fulham has made a £20 million offer for the Danish international, but Palace has rejected it. The club values Andersen closer to £40 million and has not received any subsequent bids.
Fulham is also targeting Aston Villa’s Brazilian defender Diego Carlos, but their bid was also rejected. Fulham is keen to bolster their backline ahead of the new season and is exploring various options.
