Newcastle star Miguel Almiron follows Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in winning Goal of the Month and Player of the Month double but denies Jack Grealish comments spurred him on

Miguel Almiron has declared Jack Grealish’s comments about him is not the reason for his incredible form.

The Newcastle star was named as October’s Premier League Player of the Month after banging in six goals.

And he also picked up the Goal of the Month gong for his emphatic volley in the 4-1 win away at Fulham.

And in winning the awards ex-Atlanta United ace Almiron has followed in the footsteps of Bruno Fernandes and Mohamed Salah by winning both the accolades in the same month.

Almiron has been one of the standout players in the top-flight this season having found the back of the net eight times from 14 outings.

He has enjoyed a remarkable run of form since Manchester City ace Grealish name-dropped the Paraguay international when speaking to Bernardo Silva during the club’s open top bus title parade.

Explaining to Silva how City came from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa on the final game of the campaign, he said: “There were two secrets… one, Riyad [Mahrez], take him off the pitch, as soon as possible. He played like Almiron.

“Number two, [pointing at Silva] he’s been so good this season, get him off the pitch.”

Fans have joked that Grealish’s comments have spurred Almiron on this term, but the 28-year-old has rejected the notion.

He told Sky Sports: “No, I don’t think anything Jack said has got anything to do with the great form and performances we have been showing as a group of players.

“Jack’s a great player first and foremost and I wish him all the best as I always do.

“But this success is down to work, more work and even more hard work.”

Almiron’s dazzling displays have helped the Magpies to third in the table ahead of Saturday’s clash against Chelsea.

Meanwhile boss Eddie Howe has been named as October’s Manager of the Month, with it being the first time since November 2016 that a club has won all three monthly awards.
