Newcastle Pursuing Inter Milan’s Midfielder Nicolo Barella

Date:

Newcastle United are reportedly preparing a bid for Inter Milan and Italy midfielder Nicolo Barella, who has emerged as one of their key transfer targets this summer. The Magpies are looking to strengthen their squad, particularly in midfield, as they prepare for their first Champions League campaign in 20 years. Leicester City’s James Maddison is also on their radar, but a big bid is being readied for Barella.

Newcastle are said to be working on a bid in excess of £50 million for the Italian, but that is unlikely to be enough to encourage Inter into selling one of their most influential players. With Barella under contract until 2026, Inter reportedly want significantly more than £50 million to consider letting him move to the Premier League.

Reports in Italy suggest that there is also interest in Barella from the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool, although there is yet to be an official bid for him from England. However, Inter see Barella as non-transferable and there is no guarantee that he would even fancy the move to Newcastle, despite their qualification for the Champions League.

Barella played 52 games for Inter this season in all competitions, enjoying the best goal-scoring campaign of his career so far with nine. He has won Serie A and two Coppa Italias with Inter, establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe.
