Newcastle fan aims hilarious dig at Jack Grealish as Man City man’s comments about Miguel Almiron come back to haunt him in draw to Magpies

A young Newcastle fan aimed a hilarious dig at Manchester City’s Jack Grealish with comments about Miguel Almiron coming back to haunt him.

Almiron starred in the Magpies’ enthralling 3-3 draw with champions City, bundling in a cross from Allan Saint-Maximin to cancel out Ilkay Gundogan’s opener.

Post-match at St. James Park the Paraguayan went and handed his shirt to a young fan with a cardboard sign, and it was easy to see why when the cameras picked up what was written on it.

The sign read, ‘Miggy, can Grealish have your shirt?’ in reference to an infamous comment from City’s no.10.

Grealish, the Premier League’s record signing, was absent for the game with an injury, but will have still heard about the reminder from a young Geordie.

During City’s title celebrations last season Grealish and teammate Bernardo Silva were talking about their final day comeback against Aston Villa, and Silva asked what the secret was.

He said: ”There were two secrets… one, Riyad [Mahrez], take him off the pitch, as soon as possible. He played like [Miguel] Almiron.

“Number two, [pointing at Silva] he’s been so good this season, get him off the pitch.”

The Portuguese then jokingly bit back saying: “Number three… keep Jack Grealish on the f****** bench.”

Grealish’s unprovoked dig at Almiron quickly made headlines at the end of last season, and it has quickly aged badly with the Almiron helping provide City with their first real shock of the season.

Another star of the draw, Kieran Trippier, who bagged a stunning free kick, was asked if the comments were a motivation for his side.

The England full-back didn’t go that far though, but he did compliment Almiron on bagging six goals and two assists in pre-season.

“Miggy’s had a fantastic pre-season and he deserves all the credit,” Trippier said when asked a question about Grealish’s dig.

“What we said is our motivation is playing against the champions, we want to be where they are.

“It’s going to take a long time but it’s a stepping stone for us and we’ve taken a huge step in a short space of time and we don’t want to get carried away with ourselves.”
