# Newcastle Manager Eddie Howe Admits ‘Hangover’ After West Ham Draw
After a thrilling midweek Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe admitted his team suffered a “hangover” from their victory as they drew 2-2 with West Ham on Sunday.
The match at the London Stadium saw Newcastle take the lead through a goal from defender Ciaran Clark in the first half. However, West Ham equalised shortly after the break through a goal from Tomas Soucek.
The Magpies then regained the lead through a penalty from Callum Wilson, but West Ham equalised again in the final minutes of the game through a goal from Michail Antonio.
Speaking after the match, Howe said: “I think there was a bit of a hangover from Wednesday night, and it was always going to be difficult to come here and get a result. We had a great start and scored a good goal, but then we conceded too easily. We had chances to win the game, but we couldn’t take them.”
Despite the draw, Howe was pleased with his team’s performance and praised their resilience. He said: “We showed great character and resilience to come back and take the lead, and I’m proud of the way we fought until the end. We could have won it, but it wasn’t to be.”
The draw means that Newcastle remain in sixth place in the Premier League table, three points behind fourth-placed West Ham. Howe is confident his team can continue to challenge for a top-four finish this season. He said: “We have to keep believing in ourselves and keep pushing for those top four places. We have some tough games coming up, but we’ll keep fighting and see where it takes us.”
The draw also means that Newcastle are still unbeaten in their last five Premier League games, having won three and drawn two. Howe believes this is a sign of progress for his team. He said: “We’ve made some great strides forward this season, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far. We just need to keep working hard and keep believing in ourselves.”
Newcastle will now turn their attention to their next match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Howe is confident his team can continue their unbeaten run and pick up three points. He said: “We know it will be a tough game, but we’re confident we can get the result we need. We’ll be giving it our all to make sure we come away with the win.”
