New York Jets Reach Agreement with Quarterback Tyrod Taylor
The New York Jets have reached an agreement with veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor, a league source confirmed on Monday. This move brings Taylor back to New York, as he previously played for the New York Giants.
Taylor had a decent season in 2023, throwing for 1,341 yards and five touchdowns, with only three interceptions. He signed a two-year, $11 million contract with the Giants in 2022. Throughout his career, Taylor has also played for the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, and Houston Texans.
According to The Athletic’s Randy Mueller, Taylor is ranked as the No. 103 free agent. He is expected to serve as a backup for Jets starter Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon early in the Week 1 game last season and was unable to play for the rest of the year.
Taylor, who is now 34 years old, still has the potential to be a solid backup quarterback. He has shown good decision-making skills and can effectively run an offense. Additionally, his athleticism is a plus, allowing him to make plays when needed. Taylor possesses a strong arm, releases the ball quickly, and can throw accurately downfield.
