Forget Cody Gakpo and Cristiano Ronaldo… it looks like Manchester United have found themselves a new striker.
Well, that’s what the Premier League’s website seems to suggest, anyway…
Much like many other Premier League sides, Man United will be looking to sign a new striker in the January transfer window – and there is already a sizeable wish list.
After missing out on Gakpo to rivals Liverpool, the likes of Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, Benfica’s Portuguese rising star Goncalo Ramos, Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and even ex-Red Devil Memphis Depay have all been linked with moves to Old Trafford.
But it appears United fans don’t need to speculate anymore about who could replace Ronaldo and be an alternative to Anfield-bound Gakpo, after eagle eyed supporters spotted a new player has joined their ranks.
The Premier League’s official website lists each of their 20 teams’ players, and fans have noticed a mystery player, a Portuguese striker called Betinho, has been added to the United squad.
He’s also been given the No. 11 shirt, previously worn by Mason Greenwood, and the website says he’s been at Old Trafford since 2019.
But with no picture displayed for the recruit on the website, and no mention of it from the club or rumblings of his arrival, fans have been left baffled.

That hasn’t stopped him being described as a Manchester United striker on his Wikipedia page, though.
On further inspection, it appears Betinho – whose full name is Alberto Alves Coelho – plays in the fourth tier of Portuguese football for Espinho and has done since 2019.
There are no records to show how he’s got on for his club this season, but last campaign he made one appearance.
Prior to Espinho, Betinho played for Sporting Lisbon, and has even represented his country at youth level – just like Ronaldo.
He also had a loan spell at Brentford in the 2014/15 season, making just one appearance for them.
And the Bees link is ironic considering fans are now joking it could be code to disguise the arrival of Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
Betinho’s current contract with the Portuguese outfit expires in the summer – according to Transfermarkt, at least – so Man United may be striking while the iron is hot on that one…
But, quite frankly, we’re just as confused as you are!
